Belief in the Mission

I’m now working on GoodsConnection.com with a potential co-founder (he was working on the project solo before I joined). In its current form the site seeks to be the best place on the web for consumer product research (i.e. where you go before making purchasing decisions).

When I buy a ~thing~ I usually just google “best x” and read 2 or 3 of the “best x” articles. I make a decision, go to amazon, ensure the product has 4.5 – 5 stars, and then buy. I find the process smooth and fast. Thus I have never personally (or tangentially) experienced the problem GoodsConnection is trying to solve.

I don’t really understand the problem, so I struggle to imagine potential solutions (i.e. the business). I’m going to spend the next few days researching the customer and market to remedy my ignorance, but now I fully appreciate why “scratching your own itch” is the easiest approach to founding a business.

Belief in the mission (that it might work, not that it needs to save the world) is clearly crucial to founding a company. It is my first hurdle to clear.
