Recently, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about cholesterol, specifically concerning the question of how much one should have in his blood stream. It is a massive, controversial topic with both individual and societal implications. For example, my total and LDL cholesterol are very high. Conventional wisdom suggests I am at higher risk for heart disease and should be put on a statin. However, there is an emerging body of research that suggests the LDL -> heart disease relationship may not be as straightforward as once thought.
I think I tend to enjoy learning about topics where I know nothing, but often struggle to maintain persistent interest after my initial burst of enthusiasm (examples include poker, jiu jitsu, weight loss startups). One exception is my interest in investing, which I began learning about 8 years ago (yikes, growing older…) and am still intrigued by today!
That is all.
