I cycle through periods of weeks when I do essentially 0 programming, and then attempt to dive back into a coding project and find that my coding ability has withered away. After several hours of hitting my head against the wall, I usually find my stride, but this pattern has become fairly consistent.
One clear remedy would be to code a little most days, but I don’t necessarily care about preserving that muscle for the long-term. Coding is fun for me, but ultimately it is a means to an end and I’m agnostic as to whether I can still code 10 years from now.
