He was always there for me. He thoughtfully considered my dumb ideas. He was my sounding board. It was only 3 days…but they were magical.
In all seriousness it was a great change of pace getting to work with a partner, however brief (for context: we found each other via a founder match program and agreed to work on his website together as a trial project). We were seemingly aligned on our goals for the venture, our communication style, and our openness to new ideas and methods. It should have been the beginning of an effective partnership.
Unfortunately the problem was me, not him. After several days of conversation and research I still struggled to build conviction in the business idea (go to GoodsConnection.com and tell me what I am missing). He has worked on this site for a while, so he wasn’t ready to completely change directions – also, what do I know!
So my tldr retrospective co-founder checklist is – your goals should be aligned regarding:
-Financial outcome
-Communication methods
-Work intensity (working hours/week as a crappy proxy)
–RAISON D’ETRE (The point of the business)
Flying to an island tomorrow where I hope to reassemble the pieces of my broken heart. ✌️
